This hill station is having the pride of highest mountain peak in entire Nilgiris mountain ranges. This hill station has a unique place among all the hill stations of Tamil Nadu. The surroundings of this hill station are a thick layer of green forestry and lush greenery. Coares grasses are also found in this hill station at very large scale.

According to historical records available, this place was once under the reign of Hoysal Kings. The great king Vishnu Vardhana ruled this place from 1104 to 1141 AD for a long tenure of 37 years. There was always a blue fog exists in that area and it is believed that present name Nilgiri is derived from that aspect. Later, Mr. John Sullivan built a stone house in this area during 1882 and that building is presently being used as Government Arts College’s principal’s chamber. Tourism department of Tamil Nadu maintains an observatory on top most portion of Doddabetta. The magnificent look of Mysore plains and portion of Coimbatore are clearly seen from this point. On this peak, a good offer of trekking is also available for interested tourists. A resort having all the amenities and luxuries is located in Doddabetta peak.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

The period between March to mid June is really the pleasant time to visit Doddabetta. However, winters are chilled and temperature at that time shuttles between 070 C to 190C. A rainy season is also there and covering the period from June to September.This place falls in subtropical area, hence all type of climate is found here.

Tea And Tourism Festival

This festival is organized here in the January each year. During this festival, one can taste some best brands of tea in various stall placed in the festival.

Chennai  is the nearest airport to reach Doddabetta. Bus services and private taxies are easily available from Chennai to Ooty and Doddabetta.

By Rail

Ooty is the nearest rail head and all the major train are well connected from this hill station.

By Road

From OOty, a total; distance of 11.3 kilometers is required to be covered.Private cars, taxies and bus services are well available from Ooty sand nearby districts to this hill station.
