Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, Nainital



Nainital is a beautiful hill station in the newly born state of Uttarakhand and has many natural and man- made parks. Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo is one of them, which is located in Nainital. The zoo is well connected by road and there is a steep motorable road that leads to the zoo.
Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude ZooinNainital was famous for housing India's only Siberian Tiger from 2001 until its death in November 2011. Kunal, The tiger was one of the pairs of tiger that was brought from Darjeeling in 1997. His elder brother Mahesh died in 2001.
The Nainital zoo is named after Bharat Ratna Pt. GovindBallabh Pant. Uttarakhand has only this zoo in the State which is spread across 4.7 hectares.
History
Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo was created in the year 1984. The zoo covers an area of approx 4.7 hectares. On 1st June 1995, the zoo was made accessible to public for the first time. The zoo is managed since then by "GovindBallabh Pant High Altitude Zoo Management Society, Nainital" from 1stMarch 2002.
The main motive behind establishing Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo was for the conservation and preservation of the wildlife and bio-diversity of the hilly region inUttarakhand.

Nainital has a great importance in the map of India when it comes to tourism, both National and International. Nainital has always been the favorite place for the tourists, students and children who come here to enjoy the climate. Not only has Nainital showed its prowess in the field of tourism, but also in the field of research andeducation. To keep the environment clean, Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Nainital Zoodoes not allow visitors to carry polythene bags.
Animals
Pt.GovindBallabh Pant Zoo is situated in Nainital,Indian state of Uttarakhandat a height of 2100 m above sea level. It has a vast open area and has a large number of rare species of wild animals such as Himalayan Black Bears, Snow Leopards and Siberian Tigers along with some other wild animals that include monkeys, wolf, leopard, rose ringed parakeet, palm civet cat, hill fox, silver pheasants, ghoral, barking deer and Sambhar.

Location: GB Pant High altitude Zoo is located around 2 kms from the foothills of Sherka Danda near Tallital Bus station which is at an altitude of 2100 ms above sea level and well connected through road.
Visit timing
9:30 am to 4:30 pm
Zoo remains closed on Monday, holi and deepawali.

Professional Video Camera:Rs. 200.00 Each
Free entry is provided for senior citizens and disabled people.

By Train: 40 Km. far from nearest railway station Kathgodam by motor road.
