Uttarakhand Patal Bhuvaneshwar Hill Station



This hill station reserves the place of very mysterious place in the history of Uttaranchal. This place is located above 1350mtrs from MSL. The hill station has fully dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is actually a cave made of limestone, located at a distance of 13 kilometers away from Gangolighat. The access way to the caves passes through a long and very narrow tunnel. The other forms of Lord Shiva like, Ganesha, Sheshnag and Kal Bhairav are also located here. It has a strong belief in the population of this place that the cave is the seat of lord Shiva. Not only lord Shiva, but also the cave is believed to be the place of all the gods and goddesses worship under Hindu religion. It was the Treta yug, when the king Rituparna discovered this place. He belonged to the Sub dynasty. The Bhandaris are the priest of this cave from very old time and more than 20 generation. They are the resident of a nearby village called Bhuvneshwar. That is why this place called Pattal Bhuvneshwar.
The dimension of this cave is 160mtr long. Throughout the cave, the carvings are made on limestone rocks. As stated above, each god is seated in this cave.A general belief, that the worshiping in this cave is equal to the worship of Char Dham of the state. The great cave has four points to access. The names of these points are as Randwar, Paapdwar, Mokshadwar and Dharmdwar. It is said that the Paapdwar was closed after Rawana was no more and likewise Randwar was closed after the great war of Mahabharata. In this cave, the hairs of Lord Shiva, the Arawati of Lord Indra and the tongue of God Kali Bhairav, are kept.

How to Reach

By Air
Pantnagar ios the nearest air strip to reach this place. The airport is located at 244 kilometers away from Patal Bhuvneshwar. This hill station is well liked with road connection from Pant Nagar airport.
By Rail
Not more that 154 kilometers from this station, the nearest railway station is located at Tanakpur. Bus service (operated by private bodies) and tourist cabs are easily available from the railway station to this place. This railway station is also linked with the major cities of the country.
By Road
Road transportation is also available for Patal Bhuvneshwar. From ISBT (Anand Vihar), various buses are available for Pithoragarh, Lohaghat and Tanakpur. Local taxi can be hired at reasonable charges from these places to reach this hill station.

Adi Kailash, Berinag, Choukori, Dharchula, Didihat, Gangolihat, Milam Glaciar, Munsiayari, Pithoragarh. These places are important not only with the view of tourism, but the religious importance of all the places mentioned above is higher because of nearby places of Patal Bhuvneshwar.

This place is accessible almost all the year. Hindi, English and Kumaoni languages are easily used here.
