A home for the Garhwali that is in the state of Uttarakhand and is in the northern part on India is also its administrative division. From the north it is bordered by Tibet, Kumaon region is to its east, to the osuth is Uttar Pradesh and in the north-west isHimachal Pradesh. The following districts form the part of Garhwal like Chamoli, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi and Dehradun. The major language spoken in this region is Garhwali and the people here are called as Garhwali. The Pauri town is called the administrative center. The largest and highest dam of Asia is in the Garhwal region ans is called Tehri Dam. The water from two rivers of Himalaya that is Bhagirathi and Bhilangana serve this dam.
History
During the Puranic period it has been nurtured as the mythological place for its people. As per the history it shared its history with the Mauryan Empire.

By Air
The closes airport to Tehri is the Jolly Grant Airport and is 91 kms away for here. Taxis can be hired for further journey.
By Rail
The closest rail head is in Rishikesh which has trains coming from almost all the parts of India. Taxis and Buses can be hired from Rishikesh to reach Garhwal.
By Road
Garhwal is nicely connected with all the major roads of the northern India. Buses ply from ISBT Kashmiri Gate Delhi to reach Garhwal. Taxis can also be hired to reach this place.
Places to Visit
Tehri Dam
The prevalent hydroelectric project in the entire world that is binds the water from the two major rivers Bhagirathi and Bhilangana is the Tehri Dam. A total of almost 346 MW hydal power is generated from this plant. It is the largest and highest dam in Asia. Many visitors come here for the visit.

The monsoon here begins by mid of June. Till the first week of September Garhwal experiences hefty rains. The time from July to September is good for those who love to trek as they can enjoy trekking in the valley of flowers where numerous flowers can be seen during this time. The monthe of April is declared as the starting of summers. The temperature is high during summers that can be harsh for the visitors. The best time to visit here is from April to June and also in September and October.
Language and Culture
The majority of people here speak Garhwali language that has been innate of Indo-Aryan group.
