Lucknow Zoo



Categorized by Central Zoo Authority of India under the Head of a” Large Zoo”, Lucknow Zoo is situated in the heart of the city of Uttar Pradesh within an area of 71.6 Acres
History
A Deputy Conservator of Forests heads the set-up as a Director for its day to day administration, while the management is handled by trust that is constituted of a Committee consisting of the following:
  1. Forest Secretary (Chairman)
  2. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, (Vice Chairman)
  3. Chief Wildlife Warden (Administrator).
Animals
Lucknow Zoo has a population of 440 mammals, 261 birds, and 40 reptiles representing 97 species, which include the White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Wolf, Lion, Hoolock Gibbon, Indian Rhinoceros, Himalayan Black Bear, Black buck, Barking Deer, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, Giraffe, Zebra, Asiatic Elephant, Common Otters, Giant Squirrels, Hill Mynahs, Golden Pheasant, Great Pied Hornbill, Silver Pheasant etc. And here  in-house breeding of Swamp Deer, Black Buck, Hog Deer and Barking Deer, White Tiger, Indian Wolf and several varieties of pheasants as also being undertaken.

Visitors to this Zoo number 900,000 to 1,000,00 annually.

The Zoo is located at Banarsi Bagh very close to the prominent locality of Hazratganj ( Narhai Locality) and conveniently connected by Bus, Taxi and Rickshaw, and is just 4 Kms. From the Railway Station at Charbagh, Lucknow Contact phone: 0522- 2239588
Visit timing
Lucknow Zoological Park is closed on every Monday and the day of Holi Festival.
The timings during which visitors are permitted entry in the Zoo are:
8.30 am to 5.30 pm From February to April
8.30 am to 6.00 pm From May to July
8.30 am to 5.30 pm From August to October
8.30 am to 5.00 pm from November to January
For those who wish to take a Morning Walk here at the Zoo , the timings are:
  • From March to September -5.00 am to 7.00 am
  • From October to February - 6.00 am to 8.00 am
Lucknow Zoological Park is closed on every Monday and  at the time of HOLI festival

Offensive Activities in Lucknow Zoo

In order to ensure a peaceful  environment the following have to be observed by all visitors:

  • Carrying of polythene prohibited.
  • Carrying of fire arms and pets prohibited
  • making fire and cooking are not permitted.
  • Playing of radio transistor and tape recorders is not permitted
  • Teasing wildlife is not permitted.
  • Playing of cricket, football and badminton on premises is not permitted.
  • Consumption of intoxicated material prohibited.
  • Plucking of flowers or causing harm to trees and gardens not allowed
  • Making loud noise prohibited.
  • Feeding Wildlife not permitted
