History

Dattagiri is known by many names like Baba Budangiri or Baba Budan Giri is located in the Dattagiri Hill Range/Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats of India. The shrine of DattaGiri/Budangiri is famous in the Chikkamagaluru District of Karnataka. Both the Hindus and Muslims visit this place.

Mulliayanagiri and Dattagiri/Baba Budangiri are peaks of Dattagiri/Baba Budan Giri  at a height of 1895m. These peaks have the shape of the crescent moon and are collectively known as ‘Chandradona Parvatha Shreni’(Chandradona Mountain Range).

The highest peak of Baba Budan Giri Range is Mullyanagiri and there are variations of spellingsfor it like Mullayangiri or Mullainagiri. This peak is the highest one and it falls between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. The famous trek line lies between Mullayanagiri and Babudubgiri.

The peak is named after Baba Budan a Muslim saint who is said to have stayed there 150 years ago.

The nearest airport is the Mangalore International Airport.

The nearest railhead is Shimoga.

Road

The roads which connect the places are in good condition. There are few buses which ply to the Darga and then a few kilometer walk will lead to the peak.

Places To Visit

Caves

There are three siddhas which contain symbol and Gaddiges(tombs) and an annual fair is held to honor the lord. The beauty of the place around makes this pilgrimage centre very frequently visited place.

Seethala

The Seethala is supposed to contain a ‘matha’ and a double shrine temple of ‘Seethala – Mallikarjuna

Waterfalls

There are three waterfall and all have an epic story behind it. The three waterfalls are Gada Theertha, Nallikayi Theertha and Kamana Theertha.

Gada Theertha

The Pandava prince according to the myths had made the Gada Theeertha. Bheema represented the ‘Gada’ the club who had quenched the thirst of his mother during the time of Exile.

September to February is the best time to visit this place but during winter the place becomes misty and cold.
