The centre of many historical events the Thiruvananthapuram Fort is built in 1747, during the ruler time of Marthandavarma Maharaja. He was the founder of this fort. But he could not build it completely so KarthikaThirunal Dharma Raja in 1787 A.D has completed it. This fort is in the centre of SreePadmanabha Swami Temple. The height of the Fort is about 15 ft. A well known architect ThaikkadVishnuthrathanNamboothiri built it. There are four gateways in all directions. The fort of east is called Kizhakkekotta, of west fort is called PadinjareKotta, Thekkekotta of South Fort and Vadakkekotta is called of north fort. Sreevaraham, SreeKandeswaram and VettimurichaKotta are the gate ways at the south east side for people.
In 1985, the Department of Archaeology announced that the fort and the doors of the fort are made as for the purpose of protection. These monuments are very safe against the attack of the enemies.
History
The Kings of Travancore constructed the gate way of the east.This city is covered by this fort from all side and the Sri PadmanabhaSwamy temple in the centre of the fort. The symbol of a conch increases the beauty of the wide metal doors which are on the entrance. It reflects the symbol of the Royal Family of Travancore.
Architecture
There are many small and big palaces and palatial buildings in the fort which are built in the style of the western architecture in a traditional way. The members of the Travancore royal family used these building for their own purpose. Nowadays almost buildings are being used as offices.
In the East Fort area, the Ananthavilasam Palace is identified as the most beautiful palace among all the palaces.The rank is first of this palace among all the palaces. In 1880 King VishakamThirunal built this fort in the South direction of the temple. The Barouque and Rococo styles of architecture was used to build this fort. IT is nearby the Krishnavilasom Palace which was constructed by the King SreeMoolamThirunal in 1885. It also shows the sample of the traditional and western architecture style.
One of the oldest palaces the SreePadamKottaram which is lies to the North of the temple, in East Fort is also very attractive. This Palace is also in the fort. This palace is used for the kings and queens who came to participate in the temple of the solemn ceremony.
The Saraswathivilasam and the Sundaravilasam palaces are built at the last of the 19thcenturyare the one of the most beautiful palaces in Kerala. These palaces are well knownfor its roofs, long verandahs, arched gates and circular pillars and high walls on which the carving had been done of western architecture style. They are centre of attraction. These palaces are well identified as a residential placeofKerelaVarmaValiaKoyiThampuran.

Travel by train

Sri Padmanabhswamy Temple
Sri Padmanabhswamy Temple is a popular temple of Lord Vishnu in Trivandrum.This temple is managed by the trust headed of the royal family of Travancore. Chalai Bazaar
In Thiruvananthapuram, there is a shopping place which is known as Chalai Bazaar (Chala Market) in kerela.Killippalam and East Fort is well connected to this market. This market covered the area of the narrow road from east to west. This market is covered the area of 2KM all the shops are in queue without leaving a distance. All the things are available Chalai Bazar. There are many stalls of home appliances, vegetables, jewelry shops and hardware. The timings of the opening for the shops are from 9 am to 8pm. These shops open daily. But these shops remain close on Sunday. This market becomes overcrowded in the evening every day. There is a hub of edible things also and people comes here to enjoy spices things
Weather and Best Time to Visit
During the month from October to February is the best time to visit Trivandrum. During this time the atmosphere is very pleasant to enjoy water sports and for taking the enjoyment of other things. From June to September is best time for honeymoon.

From 15th August to 15th September in Malayalam Shravan Month, Onam is celebrated with pomp and show. The procession of Onam and tourism week celebrations is very enjoyable. Every year Kovalam beach & surrounding areas is the centre of attraction for the tourist to celebrate New Year.
