History
Magnificent view of the Kangra valley and Dhauladhar ranges , a small hill station above Mcleodganj , welcome to Dharmkot . Located in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India Dharamkot is paradise for interesting eateries . Consider it as a hub for meditation , Dhamma Sikara and Tushita Meditation Center are situated at Dharamkot.Tushita Meditation Center is place dedicated to study and practice of Buddhism.
Triund is a snowline situated on the foot of Dhauladhar at an altitude of 2,827m above the sea level. Regarded as one of the most easily accessible snowline in the Himalaya, which has its starting point in Iluqua is located 5 Km away from Triund. For a good walker , it’s a four hour journey from McLeodganj to Triund another one and a half hour may be considered to reach Iluqua.
Ahead of Dharamkot , the terrain past the Galu Devi Temple the climbing becomes more demanding.
History
Lord Elgin, the British Viceroy of India (1862-63) was a great admirer of natural beauty of Dharamshala because it resembled to the beauty of Scotland , his home town back in England. Lord Elgin passed away in 1863 while he was on a tour. He now rest in peace in the graveyard of St. John's Church-in-Wilderness, which stands in grove of Pine trees between McLeodganj and Forsythganj.
By 1904, Forsythganj and McLeodganj was a major place of trading and business and official works related to kangra district were done here. It was a serious earthquake of 1905 which compelled the British Government to move
How To Reach
Dharamkot is situated at Forsyth Ganj Road.
Forsyth Ganj Road provides a visual treat to the tourist as the drive along this road is quite attractive. The 1.7 km drive is a great experience for nature lovers.
The attraction can be reached by a hired taxi or a cab from the main city. One can also choose HPRTC and private buses to roam around the city. Walking by the green meadows to the place can also be nice refreshing experience.

Naam Art Gallery
The Naam Art Gallery is famous among tourist for paintings and exhibitions. The gallery displays the paintings by renowned German painter Elizabeth Buschmann and English painter A.W. Hallett. Painting are also available for sale to the art lovers .
Tibetan Library
The Tibetan Library is a Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA). The library is one the most prominent reservoir of Tibetan literature and work related to Tibetan establishment around the world.
Tibetan Museum
The Tibetan Museum is in the charge of conserving the Tibetan artwork artifacts and culture. The museum is situated within the complex of Dalai Lama s temple. White painted walls of the museum displays photographs and artifacts related to Tibetan culture.

In Dharamkoat summers are hot and winters are cold.
- During March to June it is summer season. Tourists activities becomes less as temperature shoots up that is between 22deg C to 38 deg C.
- There is scanty rainfall which it gets mainly between July to August.
- Winters extend from November to February. Winters are very cold, snowfall occurs in the month of December and January.
- During November to February the season is winter . There is extreme cold as snow falls during December and the month of January.
Best Time To Visit
During November to February is the best season for tourist’s activities.

Hindi, Punjabi and English along with Pahari is the widely spoken language of people who are engaged in the tourism industry.

Festivals
Prashar Fair
It is an important festival celebrated every year in June by tribal people according to their customs, on the onset of summer.
Losar Festival
The beginning of the new year is celebrated by this festival in either February or March, they follow the Tibetan calendar.
International Himalayan Festival
It is the chief festival of the Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh and is enjoyed with great enthusiasm.
Saka Dawa Festival: Saka Dawa Festival is the important festival for the followers of Tibetan Buddhism. This festival has a great religious significance for the devout disciples of Lord Buddha.
Activities
Trekking is the main activity and it is usually done in the area of Dhauladhar range, the trekking equipment can be rented . Two major time for trekking are from the month of April to June and second from September to October.

Get Around

Naddi Gaon,situated just at a distance of 1km and a half away close on a bridge to Dal Lake gives tourists an astounding picturesque vision of the Dhauladhar range. Only at a distance of 8km of trekking on can reach Triund at a height of 2,827metres.
Bhagsu Village Only at a small distance of 2km from McLeodganj, it is built on the banks of a stream. The stream is fed by a waterfall which leads to a pool which is a bathing spot for the pilgrims prior to offering prayers at the Bhagsunath,s Shiva Temple.
Palampur a beautiful small town 40 kms away from Dharamshala is covered on all sides by tea gardens and charming snowcapped peaks and it offers quiet retreat flourishing on its large fruit orchards.
Shopping
The important shopping areas in Dharamkotare popular for their Tibetan handicrafts things which can be purchased in McLeodganj and the city of Dharamshala.
The Green Shop managed by the Tibetan Welfare Office puts on sale recycled products those made with hands like cards and beautiful paper.
Shopping in this city of Dharamkot is limited to the purchase of handicrafts including woolenclothes, carpets, metal objects, thangkas, and ornaments.
