Raja BasubuiltNurpur Fort (in the beginning known as Dhameri) which is older more than one billionyear situated at 66 kilo meter far away from Dharamsala and 24 kilo meter from Pathankott. Nurpur has been named of this fort after the name of Noor jahan for the granddaughter-in-law of Mughal Emperor Akbar whose grandson Jahangir has named for the sake of her beloved wife (Noor jahan). Nurpur Fort is located at the jabbar river bank and it is in the Kangra city of State Himachal Pradesh.
History
People got the information for the first about this Nurpur Fort during Mughal Emperor Akbar through History. The king of the Nurpur,Mau and Paithanis recognized as the LandLord of the Nurpur Fort, not as the king of Nurpur. The EmperorShahjahandestroyed the older Fort of Mau. In ancieant time it is identified as Dhameri. But after some time Raja BAsu changed its name and it was called Nurpur in the honour of mugjhalemprorShahjahan and empress Noorjahan. It is popular for an old fort and a temple of Brij Raj Bihari. The information has been found that Meerabai also worshipped in this temple .

Nurpur Fort is a far away 66 km from Dharamshala. Tourists who come from South India (Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad) can come by plane or catch train to Amritsar or Chandigarh and can carry on their trip by taxi to Dharamshala.

Weather and Best Time to Visit
Pathankot has warm climate for almost all the year round so it is welcoming to the tourists all through the year. Summer season is very hot and temperatures can go up rapidly in the peak season of the summer. The monsoon seasoncomes for the limited period the rainfall occurring during this time make the temperature of the Pathankotrelatively lower and when the winterseason comes, it is very cold more than other regions of the state. The best period to visit Pathankot and all these places is during October and November.
The summer season falls fromthe months of Marchtill June. The temperature during the summers raises up to 43°C and the minimum temperature during summers is around 21°C. The hottest month is the month of May.
The monsoons arrive in by the end of July and remains till September. The temperature drops down to a certain limit with the arrival of rains. The humidity level is increased during the monsoons. The tourists visit the place during October and November when the weather becomes pleasant.
During the months of December, January and February, the winter season falls. The temperature drops down to 1°C when the winters are at its peak. The maximum temperature during winters is 26°C.
