David Scott was one of the most hardworking, determine, clever and capable worker of Governor of Bengal of North Eastern Frontiers of Bengal and Commissioner of Revenue Circuits of Assam. A fatty brick building was made in his remembrance well known by his own name A David Scott Monument. David Scott came to Cherrapungi as a Messenger.
Davis Scott Monument is basically his Statue built up in his remembrance. He invaded this place as the messenger of Governor of Bengal of North Eastern Frontiers of Bengal and Commissioner of Revenue Circuits of Assam.
History
David Scott,a student from Musselberg Academy. Scott always wished to be a writer of HEIC in the year 1801. He died as bachelor due to some heart issues in the year 1831.
How to Reach
By Air
One can reach the place by air as first travelling to Shillongand than boarding a bus toChirapungi . A private helicopter is given to the Govt. of Meghalaya to make the passengers way convinent enough from Guwahati- Shillong- Tura Sector. This facility was provided by Pawan Hans.
By Rail
The most nearby railway station is that in Shillong, from where a bus can be taken to reach Cherrapunji.
By Road
The closest railhead being Guwahati from Cherrapunji, hence one can take a bus or a taxi from Paltan Bazaar to reach the place.
It is a restricted area hence the foreign tourists need proper prior permission from the government before visiting the place.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
Being a mild Subtropical highland it receives wind from both the Southern as well as the Northern region, giving it only one season of Monsoon a year. The town is situated on the khasi hills hence the orographic lift enhances the precipitation. The best time to visit the place is winters as its not that intense.
The place holds two Guinness world records for receiving the maximum amount of rainfall which was 22,987 millimetres(905.0 in) in the year 1860 and 1861.
The best time for one two visit the place is in the month of October lasting to March.
Accomodation
number of hotels are available for accommodation ranging from 3 stars to 7 stars. One can also stay in the government circuit houses but for that permission is needed from the Deputy Commisioner of Shillong or even from some sub-divisional officer of Sohra or Dak Bangla.
