Ballavpur is a wildlife sanctuary, which lies in Birbum district of West Bengal. Its nearest place is Shantiniketan, which lies at a distance of 3 km from this sanctuary. Jacks, foxes and blackbuck are chiefly found here. The temperature ranges here from 10deg C to 40deg C. The languages, which are spoken here, are English, Hindi and Bengali. The months from August to March remain very pleasant for visiting this place. This sanctuary is also called as Deer Sanctuary and lies at a distance of 3 km from Visva Bharathi University, which lies in Shantiniketan lying in Birbum district.Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary boasts off all kinds of deer like jackals, foxes, spotted deer and black bucks. It also accommodates a big flock of migratory aquatic birds. The species of such birds is more than 600. This sanctuary is considered one of the best picnic spots for families.
Climate And The Most Suitable Time To Visit
The climatic condition of the sanctuary remains very pleasant. It consists of both cold and hot seasons. During summers, i.e. from the months of March to May, the highest temperature reaches as high as 40 degree centigrade or even goes higher. During winters, i.e. from the months of December to February, the lowest temperature goes as low as 10 degree centigrade. The monsoon starts from the months of June to September. One of the most famous festivals of the place is Poush Mela, which is celebrated annually in the month of August or September. The fair of this festival is organized every year and it attracts thousands of people.
How to Get There
Wildlife Sanctuary Ballavpur is accessible by taxis, private buses and state-run buses from morning till evening.
By Train:
The nearest railway station is Bolpur, which lies at a distance of 2 km from here. Bolpur is joined to Kolkata by trains. All metropolitan cities of India are joined to Bolpur through Kolkata railhead.
By Air:
The closest airport is Kolkata international airport, which lies at a distance of 210 km from this place. The fare of the taxi from this place to the airport is Rs 4000. Kolkata is joined by air to all chief airports of India and is also joined to numerous cities of India.
By Road:
The buses owned by state transport corporation often ply there. Many tourist service caterersmake arrangements for package tours by means of A/C deluxe coaches to this place from Guwahati and Kolkata. The charges of these luxurious buses are Rs. 4/km.
Wildlife
Wildlife Sanctuary Ballavpur accommodates different kinds of water birds and deer in addition to foxes and jackals. One can also spot spotted deer and black buck in the sanctuary.

Shantiniketan is the nearest city to this Sanctuary, where one can have different types of accommodation depending on ones budget. The tourist lodges, which are run by the government, are also available in Bolpur, which lies at a distance of 5 km and 2 km from this Sanctuary and Shantiniketan respectively.
