1342 sq km,itthe largest natural reserves in Bihar.This Sanctuary is located in the famous Kaimur hills range. And the striking feature about the sanctuary is its climatic conditions as it proves to be a rich reserve in terms of its flora & fauna.
Tigers, panthers, wild boars, sloth bear, sambar deer, chitals, four-horned antelope and nilgais are the main animals found here. Whereas Indian Rosewood (Sheesham), Teak, Saal, Jamun, Mahua, Salai (Boswelliaserrata) etc are some exotic species of plant life
Apart from providing shelter to more than 70 species of native inhabitants like Peaf owl, Bulbul, Pied Hornbill,Swallow, Falcon, Nightjars, Grey Patridges, Dronge, Paradisefly, Kingfisher, Mainas, PigeonWood Pigeon, Blue jay, Owl, Kites, Quail, Malabar,  Greater Spotted Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle etc., the soothing climatic conditions in the Kaimur Sanctuary also attracts many birds from Central Asia.
Weather And Best Time To Visit
Winter:
The pleasing cold weather whichbegins early in November comes to a close in the middle of March. The warmth and radiance showered by the sun in day time is swapped by therevitalizingchillnessat night. Here temperature varies from 5 to 10 degree Celsius.
Summer:
The hot weather sets in and persists until the middle of June. During the hot season, Biharwitnesses dust-storms, thunder-storms and dust raising winds like the other states of north India. May,the hottest month in the stateexperiences dust storms having a velocity of 48-64 km/Hour,with a second maximum in April and June. The hot winds (loo) of Bihar plains blow between April and May with an average velocity of 8-16 km/hour. This hot windaffects the tranquility of the people of Bihar to a great extent.
Monsoon:
The south west monsoon showers its gift in the form of rain which begins in June and its density is felt in the months of July and August
The period from October and March proves to be the best time to visit the reserve as this is in coherence with the prevailing weather conditions and the seasoning of migratory birds.
How To Reach
By Air:
Approximately 100kms away is the Varanasi airport
By Rail:
Again Varanasiis the nearest railhead.
By Road:
Road Kaimoorcan be easily reached by road from Varanasi and Mirzapur (100 kms).

Wildlife
The Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary has a fertile landscape, housing a wide variety of wildlife population such as black bucks, antelope, blue bull, Chital, chinkara, leopard, karakal and bijjuand nilgais, chinkaras, tigers, leopards, hyenas and sloth bears. A huge number of resident and migratory bird species also thrives at Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary
Flora:
The fertile and rich soil of the sanctuary grows avariety of plant species such assheeshamteek, saal, jamun, mahua, salai, jheengar, siddha and Koraiya. As one walks through the reserve one passes through stretches of deciduous forest, mosaic grassland and swampy marshes.
Fauna:
The sanctuary provides an excellent atmosphere for the peaceful survival of animals such as tigers, panthers, wild boars, sloth bear, sambar deer, chitals, four-horned antelope and nilgais. In addition to providing excellent living conditions to 70 species of resident birds,it also servesas home to the birds from Central Asia during the migratory season (winter).
Avifauna:
Greater Spotted Eagle, Pigeon, OwKingfisher, Bulbul,Peaf owl, Quail, Malabar, Grey-headed Fish Eagle,  Pied Hornbill, Nightjars, Dronge, Swallow, Paradisefly, Mainas, l, Falcon, Kites, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Grey Patridges, White-tailed Eagle, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Wood Pigeon,Blue jay,  and the Lesser Kestrel and Vultures are the common bird species found here.
The seasonal birds found in the park during winter, Ferruginous Duck, Lesser White-fronted Goose, Baer's Pochard duck and Lesser Adjutant, Black-necked Stork, Greater Adjutant and Asian Openbillstork are the actual inhabitants of Central Asia.
Anupam Lake and Kalidah near Rameshwarkund proves to be the home to fishes.  The Saanctuary also witness the presence of snakeslike python, narokole, bisako and karmegh occasionally, whereas cobra and kraits are seen frequently.

Lakhania Paintings (Rock Paintings)
The life of people of the ancient civilization is seen as Rock paintings in the cave of this area.The 4000 year old paintings in terracotta were discovered by Carlleyle in 1968.And it depict hunting, cattle grazing, war scenes, worshipping, bee-keeping, decorative floor designs, meeting, domestic chores etc.
Echo Valley
It is natural valley where phenomenon of echo is clearly observed. Any sound thrown in the direction of the valley reproduces its echo.

A nature centre is also built in this wildlife sanctuary which has aquaint collection of birds, vegetation, animals & herbs. Tourist Hut, Mahuwaria can be booked by contacting Sub-Forest Conservator, Kaimur Wildlife, Mirzapur.
Where To Stay
The Forest Rest Houses in Harrah, Mahuaria and Churkprovide basic amenities. There are a lot of hotels and lodges in close proximity for accommodation where good facility and serviceavailable. Some lodges and huts also provides cost-effective accommodation with some basic facilities. .
General Information
  • While visiting the Sanctuary please make sure that your clothes or dress is in camouflage color which is khaki, green, etc.
  • Do not make a loud noise which can disturb the lifestyle of the animals there.
  • Do not Litter paper or throw leftover food in the forest.
  • Proper precautions should be taken while doing photography which will not disturb the animals and birds there.
