Introduction: it is one of the most fascinating sanctuaries in India. The tiger which has now become endangered is seen pretty often in this sanctuary. The sanctuary is located between the Kurnool and Prakasam districts. The sanctuary covers an area of about 1194 sq.km. The forests here are very dense and have a vast range of flora and fauna in them. People who are fond of being close to nature are seen in the sanctuary in large numbers. The sanctuary is located on the Gundla Brahmeswara Plateau which gives the name to the sanctuary as well. It comes under the major wildlife parks in India. People from all over the world visit it every year. A large number of dense herbs, shrubs and trees are found here in the Gundla Brahmeswara sanctuary. Teak and bamboo trees and found in abundance here. There are many streams and rivers also running in the sanctuary. One can easily spot a tiger or a monkey quenching its thirst from them in the hot summer months. The sanctuary is home to a large number of birds as well.
Weather and Best time to visit:
The weather here in the sanctuary is usually very hot all year round with rainfall only during the monsoon season. The maximum temperatures that are in the summer months are between 40- 45 degrees. The winters here are pretty mild and not very chilly. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the months of October till May. The temperature is pleasant during this time of the year. The probability of spotting animals is also high as they are seen in the pleasant weather.
How to reach
By Air: Hyderabad is the closest airport to the sanctuary. It has direct flights from most cities in India.
By Rail: Nandyal Railway station is the closest to the sanctuary. It is about 30 km away from the park.
By Road: the sanctuary is well connected from Kurnool which is 100 km away from the park. It is easily accessible from the nearby towns and cities as well.

Wildlife
Flora: The Gundla Brahmeswara Wildlife Sanctuary has dense forests and a lot of flora and fauna enhancing its beauty. There are teak trees in large numbers in the forest here.
Fauna: the sanctuary is a habitat for a large number of birds and animals. The dense forests of the sanctuary are home to different species of animals, lizards, birds, deer, and tigers. Animals like the tiger, panther, leopard, the wild dog, hyena and the langur monkey are often spotted in the forest in large numbers.
Major Wildlife Attractions
The Gundala Brahmeswara Wildlife Sanctuary has been home to tigers, sloths, bears, deer,wild dogs, mouse deer, lizards, snakes and the marsh crocodiles. There are different species of monkeys found here as well.
Where to stay:
Good accommodation is easily available in the park since it receives a large number of visitorsall year round. The forest guest houses and the PWD bungalows are affordable and comfortable to stay at.
General Information
- No damage should be caused to the flora and fauna found in the park.
- The flowers and shrubs should not be plucked.
- Usage of any match sticks and cigarettes is a strict no in the premises.
- No littering and throwing of trash is permitted in the forest area.
- Fire arms and chemicals are not allowed inside the forest as they may cause harm to the animals and the flora in the sanctuary.
- Do not listen to very loud music or the FM in the park as the loud noises may disturb the animals.
