Foundation of Anandpur Sahib Fort was laid by the Guru Gobind Singh. This fort was present at the center of the main town. To protect the fort from the foreign stuffs, there was inaccessible door present and the fort was surrounded by the thick walls. This fort was about 40 km away from the town of Rupnagar and it was situated on the river Sutlej bank. There was a unique well present in this fort that is very deep and has a very steep staircase in that well.
Later on the under the Guru Gobind Singh leadership, Khalsa Section made the headquarters of military in this Anandpur Sahib Fort. During the time of war, there was storage of ammunition and arms by the fort surroundings. According to the myths, in this fort, Guru Gobind Singh spent about 16 years. About various onslaughts of military were witnessed by this fort from several kings. The Ajmer Chand in year 1705 had demolished the popular Anandpur Sahib Fort.
The Anandpur Sahib Fort was surrender by the order of tenth Guru at the time of Aurangzeb ruling, but this fort was saved by the endless efforts of Guru Gobind Singh with his army who fought for this fort with the Mughals. Through the bravery and intelligence, Guru Gobind Singh become the hero of the Sikh history.
History
This fort becomes the military headquarters of the Sikh Army after the establishment of the fort on 31st March 1689. This fort was situated just on the top of the hill and is well built, and about 16 years were spent by the Guru Gobind Singh. Mughals attacked the town and the Aurangzeb who is a emperor at that time ordered to imprison the Guru Gobind Singh and 10th and final Sikh guru. The Sikh Guru want to ensure that they were become stiff towards Mughals if they overcome the town and for this reason, Sikh Guru has to show his heroism and he make a division of Khalsa army into 5 battalions.
There is a fort of steel named Lohgarh on the southern part of the city. This fort is also served as the ammunition for the army of Sikh and also a factor for arms manufacture and it is also designed in a way for the protection of the Anandpur riverside. During the blockade of Anandpur in the year 1700, a drunken elephant was turned back by the Bhai Bachchittar Singh faced and also he was sent for the thrash of the fort gate.

By Air
The Chandigarh International Airport is the closest one as there is no airport in the Anandpur Sahib. Towards the North of the Anandpur Sahib town, this airport was located about 92 kms far. There are flights for this town from the few major cities like Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi, and Jammu. From airport to reach the main city, there were various local transport available like local buses and taxis.
By Rail
About 1 km from the central town of Anandpur Sahib, the railway station is present. This was connected through the broad gauge lines of railway and is situated on the 22 highway. There are few cities through which the Anandpur railway lines linked like Kartarpur Sahib, Ambala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Nangal, Rupnagar, and Minapur etc.

On the State Highway 22, this town of Anandpur Sahib is situated. It has a connection with North India and Punjab cities through the road. About 40 kms far, Rupnagar is present, 42 kms far Garhshankar is located, 83 kms far Hoshiarpur is located, 82 kms far Chandigarh is located, and 146 km far Shimla is located from the city.

Qila Lohgarh sahib
Lohgarh (fort of steel) - After the fort of Anandgarh, the second largest one is a Lohgarh fort. It serves as a factor for manufacturing of arms for the Guru Sahib and is situated on the south side of the city. As a myth that the gate of this fort was never broken, the hill armies attacked the city numerous times but not make a attack on the fort of Lohgarh.
About one and half km from the Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Lohgarh fort is located and is the riverside is surrounded by this Kesgarh Sahib as name was given the Guru Gobind Singh for the protection of the Anandpur Sahib river area. In this fort, there was manufacturing of ammunition and arms for the Sikh gurus and during the Anandpur blockade in year 1700, the Bhai Bachchittar Singh faced a elephant who was drunken with the chiefs of hills to break the fort gate.
Qila Holgarh sahib

There is a sacred Baoli Sahib in the Gurudwara Sahib. About 800 meters from the South-East region of the Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, this fort was located in the mid of the town Anandpur Sahib.
Qila Fatehgarh sahib
Fatehgarh (fort of victory) - In the Sahota village territory, this fort of Fatehgarh was established by the Sikh guru Gobind Singh to protect the city of Anandpur Sahib. At the time of establishment of this fort, Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji was born and so this fort was named Fatehgarh fort after this name. This fort was present at the North side region of the Anandpur town. As because of the memories of the struggle between the Anandpuri defenders and Mughals, this fort is remembered.
Qila Taragarh sahib
Qila Taragarh - On the outer region of the Sri Anandpur Sahib, the fort Taragarh is located. It was built by the Guru Gobind Singh Ji to protect it from the armies of hills and it is situated about 5 km from the Anandpur Sahib. One can see the Kehlur activity from a very far distance from this fort as it was built on the hill top.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
In summers, climate is very hot and in winters, it is very cold. In summers, the temperature raises up to 45° C in the month of May and June and temperature minimize up to 4° C in the month of December and January in winters. There is average rainfall of about 775.6 at the annual range and about 70% humidity in the monsoon season. During the months of June to September, there is annual rainfall of about 78% in the Anandpur Sahib.
The months of September and March are the best months to visit the city of Anandpur Sahib.
