Valmiki National Park



The Valmiki National Park is spread over a sprawling area of 335 square kilometers in the heart of Valmiki sanctuary(544 sq kms.) situated in the West Champaran district of Bihar, bordering Nepal. The divine  Himalayas stand as a towering backdrop to the Valmiki wildlife sanctuary as a visual delight to the visitors to the Valmiki sanctuary. Shouldering the sanctuary is the Valmiki Ashram in the Chitwan National park of Nepal amidst the forest area of Nepal which is of great historic importance. These forests are an extensive combination of Savannah lands and swamp forests. The One- horned rhinos and the Indian bison keep migrating from Chitwan to Valimikinagar on a recurring basis.Tigers stand as a USP of the wildlife landscape making Valmikinagar rank fourth when it comes the strength of tigers in the state.Adding to the wild charm are chital, sambhar, Nilgai (one of the rarest species of cow), leopards , hyenas, Indian civets, Jungle cats, Hog deers and wild dogs.The forests flora comprises of Bhabar- Dun Sal, waterless Siwalik Sal, Khair, cane etc.
Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary ranks second in Bihar and is the 18th Tiger Reserve of the country . The Government of Bihar declared 464.60 square kilometers of area as Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary in 1978 which was furthered in 1990 with an additional 419.18 square kilometers making it a magnanimous 880.78 square kilometers .  Just a year prior to the addition made to the Wildlife Sanctuary, the core of the reserve was declared as a National Park in 1989.
Standing at an altitude of 88 mm to 125 mm above the  Mean Sea Level (MSI), the overall climatic condition of Valmikinagar is pleasant . Summertime starts from March and stretchestill June and the Rainy season is from July to September.The pleasant winter season embarks the place by November and stays till February.The rainfall levels are about 1461.2 mm to 2053.3 mm whereas the temperature levels ranges from a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius  to a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius.
The best period to visit the Sanctuary is from November to June.

Flora :
The Valmiki National Park is rich in moist sal bearing forests, dry sal bearing forests moist mixed deciduous forests without sal , cane and tropical seasonal swamp forests rich in reed beds and wet grasslands. The forests here are an extensive combination of Savannah lands and swamp forests.There is rich growth of Bhabar-Dun-Sal , Dry Siwalik Sal, Khair and cane.
Fauna:
A plethora of animal species are found at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Apart from the Tiger, the other species of wild animals comprise of Leopards, fishing cats, spotted deer, Sambhar, Hog Deer, Black Buck , Gaur, wolves, serow, hyenas, Indian civets, Jumgle cats, wild dogs, Sloth Bear, Langoor, Rhesus Macaque etc.  One horned Rihinoceros and Indian bison frequently migrate from Chitwan to Valmikinagar. The sanctuary also boasts of the exclusive breed of peacocks and lethal pythons amongst its birds and reptiles count.
Prime Attraction
Amongst the monumental heritage of Valmikinagar are the Asoka Stupa, the Bawan Garhi and the Someshwar Fort, speaking volumes of the rich enlightened past of this place. Triveni, the point where the three rivers Dandak, Sonha and Pachanad merge after  their emergence from the hills, is touted as another attraction of spiritual relevance to this place.

The state government has ensured that people travelling from all across the globe who come to visit the Valmiki National Park are endowed with sufficient accommodation facilities such as cost effective rest houses courtesy Irrigation department and numerous hotels and lodgesclose to the precincts of the national reserve. All these accommodation options are well equipped with all requisite facilities to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay for the visitors to the Valmiki National park.
General Information
While visiting the sanctuary one must ensure that he/ she is dressed in khakis and greens, camouflage colors .
One should tread silently and not make any noise while exploring the sanctuary so that there is no disturbance to the natural wildlife.
No littering of food or paper in the forest.
While clicking the wildlife, people must take utmost precaution so that they do not threaten the animals in their natural environment by any means.
