Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is counted among the famous tiger reserves of India. It is located at Chandrapur district belonging to Maharashtra state of India. Tadoba Andheri Tiger has been declared the most ancient and the biggest national park of Maharashtra state. It has been allotted the rank of 41st by Project tiger of India.
Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is regarded as the biggest national park of Maharashtra state. It is spread over an area of 625.4 square kilometers. This region consists of Tadoba national park, which was built in the year of 1955 and covers an area of 116.55 square kilometers and Andhari wildlife sanctuary, which was built in the year of 1986, which covers an area of 508.85 square kilometers. In addition to this, it also contains protected forest of area 32.51 square kilometers and other places of area of 93 square kilometers.
High hills, which are laden with dense forest altogether make western and northern borderline of the Tiger Reserve. The elevation of hills ranges from 200 m to 350 m. On the southern part, area extends to 300 acres of land. Tadoba Lake acts as buffer between extensive farmlands and the park’s forest. Also, this lake works as constant source of water, which is very beneficial for the survival of crocodiles. Marshy lands such as Andhari River and Kolsa Lake also come under this reserve.
Kolsa and Moharli ranges are disguised by means of Andhari while Chimur hills are disguised by the means of Tadoba. It is also covered on the western and the northern side by densely forested hills. Wide valleys and smooth meadows unburden the dense forest as the land goes down northern direction to southern direction. Caves, talus and cliffs proffer protections for numerous wild animals. Andhari and Tadoba range makes two forested rectangles. The part lying on the south is not much hilly.
History
The tale is a testimony to the fact that Taru was a leader of the village and later was killed while encountering a tiger. Now, there exists a shrine, which is devoted Taru. This shrine is located under a big tree, which lies on the embankment of Tadoba Lake. The temple is frequented by adivasis during the carnival, which is organized every year in the month of Pausha, which lies between the months of December and January.
It is believed that once Gond kings rules these jungles which covered the area of Chimur hills. The practice of hunting was strictly prohibited in the year of 1935. After twenty years, in the year of 1955, area about 116.54 kilometers square was proclaimed as National Park. Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was made on the neighboring forest in the years of 1986 and 1995. The sanctuary and the park were amalgamated to set up current Tiger Reserve.
Climate And The Most Appropriate Time To Visit
The park remains open for the visitors all around the year. The wild animals are perceived visually from the months of February to May. Insects and vegetation grows to its fullest with the rains pouring in mid-June. Due to heavy growth of grasses and plants, wild animals are perceived visually in this month. Winter comes to an end from the months of November to February and is considered the most appropriate time for visiting. During day, the temperature remains between 25 degree centigrade to 30 degree centigrade and consequently the park remains delightful with greenery. It is advisable to avoid a visit on the last days of December as winter session related to the state government is organized in Nagpur and so bookings may pose a big problem.
Summers are very hot in the regions of Tadoba. During day, the temperatures reach to as high as 47 degree centigrade. Despite such conditions, it the most suitable time to have the glimpses of mammals nearby water sources as vegetation is less, which results in increasing clear visibility. The rainfall comes in the month of June with intensity of about 1,275 mm and dampness of about 66%.
The Most Appropriate Time To Visit 
The park remains open to the perturbed visitors throughout the year. Outing is permissible only during daytime. It is compulsory to accompany authorized guides for outings. The most appropriate time for visiting is from wee hours of morning till late afternoons.
Worth Visiting Places
Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is also called as Tadoba National Park. It is a dismal and solitary place for wildlife in Maharashtra. This reserve comprises of Andhari wildlife sanctuary and Tadoba national park.
The main attraction of this place is tigers. They are found in abundance here. The large flock of stately Sambar and Chital are often seen in the dense jungle. The other attractions are stealthly leopard, wild boar, wild dogs, sloth bear, robust nilgai, majestic Gaur, fleet footed Chausinga, barking deer etc.

By Air
The airport of Nagpur lies at a distance of 205 km from here
By Rail
The nearest railway station is Chandrapur, which is 45 km apart from this park.
By Road
One may enter the park through Khatoda gate located at Moharli or even through Chimur. The buses, which are run by the state transport corporation, ply there. Jeeps and taxis are other alternatives. Chandrapur and Chimur lie at a distance of 45 km and 32 km respectively.
Flora And Fauna
Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is fully compact woodlands belonging to Southern tropical dry deciduous forest, which consists of about 87% of preserved area where Teak trees are found in abundance. Apart from this, other trees are Temdu, Semal, Salai, Haldu, Dhauda, Bija, and Ain.  Lannea cormandelica, Madhuca, Mahua, Karaya gum, Hindra, Behead are other species. Apart from this, fire resistant plants also germinate here such as Axlewood Anogeissus latifolia. Butea monosperma provide gleaming colors to the jungles by means of Flame or Palas. Trees growing black plum grow in the riparian habitation nearby the pond. Arjun trees are perceived visually at the waterhole located at Panchadhara. Some grasses are also seen here.  Thickets of Bamboo also grow here. The medicinal plant, which is useful for treatment of Parkinson’s disease, grows here. An insect repellant plant, which is used for medicinal gum, is also found here. There also exists Baheda plant, which is also used for medicines.
Fauna
Besides 65 keystone species, which includes Bengal tiger, Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve proffers shade and shelter to other wild mammals, which includes neelgai, chansingha,chital, barking deer, spotted deer, sambhar, jungle cat, Indian Civer, striped hyena, dhole, gaur, sloth bears and Indian leopards. Marsh crocodile is safeguard by Tadoba Lake. The reptiles of Tadoba are python and Indian monitor. Besides, Russel’s viper, Indian cobra, Indian star tortoise are also found here. Because of wide diversity of raptors and water birds, the lake is regarded as omithologist’s paradise. Till now, accounting of 195 kinds of birds has been performed, which includes three susceptible species. They are Changeable Hawk Eagle, Crested serpent eagle and the grey-headed fish eagle. The other species include blue flycatcher, warbles, paradise woodpecker, honey buzzard, stone curlew, crested treeswift, Indian pitta and orange-headed thrush. About 75 species of butterflies have been discovered till now in this region, which includes swordtails, mormons, monarch and pansies. Some species of insects like praying mantis, jewel beetles, stick insects, dragonflies etc have been found here. During rainfall, red wood spider, giant wood spider and signature spider is seen here. Besides, lynx spiders, crab spiders and wold spiders are also spotted here.
Wildlife
Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is flourishing with life. It proffers shade and shelter to many susceptible species. The chief species are tigers. The jungle cat and the leopard are carnivores, which are assigned to this jungle. The sloth bear, civet, wild dog, hyena and hyena are in the danger of being killed. This reserve is also known for the gaur. Large flock of sambar and chital are seen here. The fleet footed four horned antelope and athletic nilgai are found here. The wild pig, flying squirrel, common langur, chevrotain and muntjac also flourish here. Crocodiles are other attractive creatures of this region. Russel’s viper, common cobra, star tortoises and terrapins are spotted here in abundance. Tadoba is also known as entomologist’s heaven. Till now, 74 kinds of butterflies containing swordtails, mormons, monarch and pansies have been accounted. Two susceptible species comprise great egg fly and danaid egg fly. Praying mantis, jewel beetles, stick jewel, stick insects and dragonflies are the insects of this reserve. The spiders like red wood spiders, giant wood spiders and signature spiders are seen during rainfall or later.
Birdlife
So far, 195 kinds of birds have been discovered which includes three prominent endangered varieties. The other species are Blacknaped blueflycatcher, warblers, Dinopium benghalense, Goldenbacked woodpecker, stone curlew etc.
Timings
The timing for viewing of Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is divided in two shifts. The first shift starts from 5:30 am to 10:30 am and second shift starts from 2:45 pm to 6 pm. The visitors remain perturbed for its viewing.
Accommodation
Tents, dormitories and rest houses are available there. Nest to the guest house located at Tadoba, there exists a holiday house, which provide dormitory comprising of 36 beds, teenager’s hostel and three family blocks. The complex of tourists is located on the embankment of the lake, which lies at the middle of the dense forests. Meals and enlivenment are provided on prior information at the concerned canteen.
General Information
The safari trip of Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve works as a briny attraction. Locally trained guides are available there along with 6-seaters and 4-wheel drive for helping visitors to visit park and understand it. The bus facility of bus service is also available there for a distance of at least 30 km from Chimur to this place. The service of railway is also provided at Chandrapur, which lies on the main track lying between Chennai and Delhi.
Entry Fees
The entry fee for adults is Rs. 10 and for child is Rs. 5. For car and jeep, Rs. 20 is charged per day/per vehicle. For heavy vehicles, Rs. 50 is charged per day/per vehicle. For still camera, Rs. 2 is charged per day. Two wheelers and three wheelers are not allowed inside the park.
Conditions Of Guides
At Zari gate, Navegaon gate and Moharli gate, local guides are spotted, who take at least Rs. 60 because entry inside the sanctuary is strictly prohibited without company of guide. Facility of lodge is also available there. Accommodation can also be availed at rest houses.
