Andhra Pradesh Nallamalla Hill Station
The Nallamalla Range is covering the Eastern Ghats and positioned in North-Couth design. The range run parallel to the Coast of Coromandel and for near about 430 km and are located between two rivers viz:Pennar and Krishna.The flat Palnadu basin is edged on the northern Border of the Nallamala Hills. The Tirupatihiills are located to the south of the Nallamala range.
The Nallamala Hills are very old hills experiencing the weather variations since many years. They have been eroded due to the climate changes. The average height of Nallamala Range is 520 m which is 1100 meters at BhairaniKonda and at GundlaBrahmeswara, the elevation is found to be 1048 meters. These peaks are located the North West to the Cumbum town. There are many other peaks which exceed the height of 800 m.
The series of 20000 ft thick rocks belonging to the Kadapa System comprises the Nallamala ranges. The primary Quartzite rocks are overlaid by some kind of irregular and slaty formation. The rocks are also made of some amounts of sand stone. The texture of the rocks is soft and they are irregular and impossible to be exploited commercially. The rocks are said to be the oldest rocks in the world. They were formed when due to the volcanic activities that occurred more than millions years back. The Nallamala range originated around 2nd century A.D.
How To Reach
By Rail
The Markapur, located on the Guntur-Hubli line is the nearest rail head to the Nallamar Ranges. The other easily accessible rail heads are Hyderabad, Kurnool,Vijayawada and Nandyal.
By Air
The distance of Hyderabad airport from Nallamala ranges is around 232km. This airport is well connected to Bangalore, Mumbai and Bhuvaneswar including other major cities.
By Bus
The AP tourism buses and the APSRTC are connects the place with all the major cities like kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Hyderabab, Nalgonda, Guntur, Devarakonda, Vijayawada etc. the bus services from karnatka links the place to the cities like Mysore, Hubli, Raichur, Sholapur, Dharwad etc.
Places To Visit
Srisailam
Located on the Krishna River, this place is used as a site for hydroelectric power project. An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is also located here. There is a beautiful stream that flows from GundlaBrahmeswara peak, ending into a waterfall. The place is also famous for a holy pool called Nemaligundam or the Peacock Pool. In the forest the MallelaTheertham is located on the Krishna River.
Cumbum Lake
This is among the oldest manmade lakes of Asia. It belongs to the 15th century A.D. The lake and a dam is the main attraction to the tourists.
Weather And Best Time To Visit
The weather of the Nallamalas ranges is quite warm and throughout the year the weather ranges from warm to hot. The average rainfall here is around 90 cm and the South West Monsoons during the months of June to September brings the maximum rainfall. The water is not percolated underground because of presence of fissures rocks and it is discharged out in the form of streams. These streams merge into the Gundlakamma River. It is the largest river arising in the hills. The winters here are cool and dry with less rainfall. The temperature during the day remains 25 degree Celsius.
The months from October to February are the best time to visit the place.

Festivals And Activities
The most important festival celebrated here is Shivratri and the other festivals which are celebrated here includesDasara and Ugadi. During the month of Kartikamasa, devotees visit shrine of Mallikarjunaswamy to worship and later move to shrine of Padma Nandi which is located at a distance of 2 miles from Mallikarjunaswamy shrine. They then move ahead to all the remaining shrines viz :Naga Nandi, Brahma Nandi, Soma Nandi and Shiva Nandi, Vishnu Nandi, Vinayaka Nandi, Maha Nandi, and Surya Nandi; in order to complete the worship of all the Nava Nandis within a day before the sunset.
