A city that is just 78 kms from Dehradun is known as Kanatal. This place is very near to Mussoorie that is also named as Queen of Hills and the other place in the surrounding of this place is Chamba. Kanatal is surrounded with snow covered mountains and has thick rich forests. Many people visit this place throughout the years. It is at a distance of just 300 kms from Delhi.

History

There was a lake named after this place but since many years there is no existence of the river now. There is also a temple that is associated to Sati Ji in Kanatal and the temple is names as Surkunda Devi. As per the sayings it is said that body of Sati Ji was brought here by Shankar Ji on his Trishul. To visit the temple the devotees have to trek for 2 kms. There are Ponies available to reach the temple.

This provides a beautiful and a peaceful environment to the visitors. The place is easily accessible through rail, road and air. The environment of this place pure and unpolluted provides its visitors a mesmerizing opportunity to communicate with nature.

By Air

The closest airport to the Kanatal is the Jolly Grant Airport that is around 92 kms from Kanatal. The visitors who come here can take taxi to Kanatal and it takes around 3 hours to reach Kanatal. The flights for Jolly Grant Airport can be boarded from Delhi.

By Rail

The closes railway line to Kanatal is either Dehradun or Rishikesh. Dehradun is at a distance of 85 kms from Kanatal while Rishikesh is at 75 kms of distance. Taxes or Local buses are easily available from the railway station to Kanatal.

By Road

This place is connected through Mussoorie and Chamba road. The luxurious buses ply for Mussoorie, Rishikesh or Chamba from ISBT Kashmiri Gate. From here the tourists can take Taxi or local buses to reach Kanatal.

The dam is in the New Tehri that is made on the river Bhagirathi and Bhilangna river

Kodia Jungle

This is very near that is on the way to Chamba. This has been considered as a very famous picnic spot and around the thick dense forests where at times some wild animals are spotted.

This festival is dedicated to the agriculture and is celebrated in mid-month of January.
