The district of Uttarakhand that is counted as second biggest district is the Chamoli district. In its north is the Tibet, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh district are located to its East, in the south is the Almora, towards southwest is Garhwal, in northeast and west are Uttakashi and Rudraprayag respectively.Gopeshwar district has been declaredas the administrative headquasters.
This place has different pilgrims to be visited by many tourists. The pilgrims that form the part of Chamoli district are Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath.The other tourists spot here are the Valle ofFlowers and Auli. The “Chipko Movement” had taken its birth here in Chamoli. The natural beauty of Chamoli district is still preserved and this has proved to be the most remarkable for the beauty of this place. The scenic beauty, the valleys, the flora and fauna of this place has proven to be the best. The Bhotiya ethnic group who are the followers of Hinduism has colonized this district.
History
Up to 1960 Chamoli has been part of Pauri Garhwal district that was part of Kumaon region.

The closest airport to Chamoli is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun and is almost 221 kms from Chamoli.
By Rail
The nearest railway station for Chamoli is Rishikesh from where taxi or local buses can be hired for the further journey.
By Road
Chamoli is well connected via the major roads towards Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishkesh, Almora and Nainital. Buses and Taxis can be hired to cover the journey for Chamoli.

Places to Visit
Badrinath
One of the temples that form the part of “Char Dham” is the Badrinath. The snow covered Neelkanth Peak that can be seen from the temple gives the pilgrim mesmerizing view. The temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu.
Hemkund Sahib
It lies in the mid of seven snowcapped mountains and are together named as Hemkund Parvat.

Festivals and Activities
Ram Navami
During the month of Chaitra Shri Rama birthday is celebrated on the ninth day and so is called as Ram Navami. The believers of Rama practice fast on this day and narrate Ramayana on this day.
Nag Panchmi
On the bright half of Sravana and on the fifth day a day is celebrated to please the God of Snakes. Using the flour snakes image is made on the wooden boards and then milk; flowersand rice are offered by the members of the family.
