Askot is a very small town in Himalayan range that is part of Pithoragarh district that is part of Uttarakhand state.There is an Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary that helps in the upkeep of Musk Deer.This is on the route of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrim.
Askot was ruled by Doti Kings of Nepal.After them came the Katyuri kings. After their rule came the Chand rulers.
The Askot is divided into two parts one in known as the Malla Askot and the other is known as Talla Askot.In the year 1742 this place was ruled by the Gorkha.
Askot is also famous for its tunnel mining and many minerals like zinc, copper, silver, lead and gold have been mined from here.
This place was earlier known as Assi Kot.
This place has rich flora and fauna and has rich vegetation of Eucalyptus, Teak etc.
