Located at a height of 4100 ft, Horsley hills is a famous hill station of the Andhra Pradesh state in India. The hill station is located at a distance of 140 km from Bangalore ad 144 km from Tirupati. While travelling to Horsley hills, the journey seems very beautiful as one encounters beautiful views and exotic plantations on the way, making it the best experience for the nature lovers.
The town which is nearest to the Horsley hills is Madanapalle. The famous mallamma temple is located at Madanpalle that attracts most of the visitors. Other tourist attraction is the Rishivalley school. The place is located at a distance of 87 km from Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary and falls on the way to the sanctuary. The natural beauty of Horsley hills is very appealing to the tourists. It is best destination for getting relief from the scorching heat of the plains.
The Horsley Hills is inhabited by the Chenchu tribes. The early name of Horsley Hills was YenuguMallammaKonda. This place is located in the Kurnool district and the temple built here is associated with a legend. The temple is devoted to a young girl Mallamma who lived and was taken care by the Elephants. She has the power of healing and has cured many tribal people with her power. One day she suddenly disappeared and considering as a goddess, people built a temple dedicated to her.
The current name Horsley Hills was given to the place after the name of W.D. Horsley, the British officer and Collector of Cuddapah district. He came here in the year 1840-1843 and chose the place to be his summer residence because of its peaceful surroundings and pleasant weather. The residence of W.D. Horsley at the Horsley hills is presently used by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh as the summer residence and is known as the Governor’s Bunglow now.
How To Reach
Horsley Hills is accessible by road, air or rail. It is suggested to travel by road to enjoy the nature with a close proximity.

The nearest airports are at Tirupati (160 km) and Bengaluru (165 km). These airports are well connected to various parts of India and abroad as well.
By Rail
The nearest railhead is located at the madanapalle Road. The distance of Madanapalle from the Madanapalle road station is around 13km and from Horsley hills it is located at a distance of 43 km.

Mallamma Temple Goddess

Rishi Valley School
It is a main landmark of Horsley hills. The school is housed in the wonderful landscape and is situated near the Madanapalle town.  Famous educationist and philosopher JidduKrishnamurti founded this school.
Gurram Konda
This place houses tombs of many kinsmen of Tipu Sultan. It is a popular Fort town located near Horsley Hills.
Lepakshi
A temple complex belonging to the sixteenth century is located here. It is made in the typical Vijayanagar style and has the statue of Nandi, which is the largest statue in the country.
Weather And Best Time To Visit
The climate of Horsley Hills is very pleasant and enjoyable especially during the summers. The winters are cold and summers are very cool and mild. Summer season exists from the month of March to May and the cool temperature becomes more soothing when the cool breeze from the mountains touches the base. The temperature ranges between 20°C to 30°C during the summer season.
The monsoons arrive in the month of June and lasts till September. This is the time when the rainwater flows in the form of small streams from the mountains.
From the month of December to February lasts the winter months and the temperature during this time ranges between 12°C to 25°C. Nights are colder and the days are cool and balmy. All over te year the weather remains cool and favorable for the visitors.
Language And Culture
The major part of the population of the Horsley hills is covered by the Chenchu Tribes. This tribe covers that part of Horsley Hills which is having rich flora and fauna. They are involved in cow breeding and breed the Punganoor cows which have low appetite and yield large quantity of milk.
The people follow tropical clothing style and the main languages spoken are Hindi, English and telugu.

Festivals And Activities
Teppotsavam
This religious festival is popularly known as the Boat Festival or Float Festival.  The festival rituals are performed in the temples and the festival images of the deities are made. These images are later demonstrated in a float or Teppamin the tank of the temple and people chant hymns and play music in the background. The festival is celebrated continuously for five days and each year during the month of Phalguna, the festival is celebrated at the Swami Pushkarinitemple on a very large scale.
"The boat festival" or "The Float Festival" is one of the prime religious celebration.

Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is located at a distance of 87 km from the Horsley Hills and is a very rich in flora and fauna. The wildlife includes cheetah, sambhar, four horned antelope, mouse deer, porcupine, hare, wild boar, jackal, jungle cat, sloth bear, jungle fowl, panther, pea fowls and elephants. The plants like FicusReligiosa, AlbiziaAmara  andSantalum Album, Bamboo etc are grown here.
Tirupati
