Versova Beach
Originally, Versova beach village is known by the name “Vesawe” that is derived from a Marathi word used for “Rest”. A popular combatant “Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje” brought his army to this place for rest during battles. Beautiful and gorgeous beach of this village faces Arabian Sea. Huge population of fishing community of Mumbai popular as Kolis resides at the seashore of Versova Beach. Moreover, fishing is probably the main occupation of people here in Versova beach village. Distinct from Marine Drive that is protected by tetrapods, popularbeach of Versova utilize massive rocks for defending buildings from waves. During high waves, entire beach is enclosed by water thereby leaving no permanent building or legal habitants on beach.
In recent years, local people and BMC adopt every possible measure to improve the situation of beach. This is the leading cause behind the formation of “Save Versova Beach Association”, but beach still run short of primary amenities like lifeguards who specialize in dealing with treacherous water in this area.
Location
This beach village is among the popular tourist destination in Mumbai or Bombay. Versova Beach is located towards north direction of Juhu Beach in the town of Andheri. This secluded beach has thrashing tides of Arabian Sea in day hours. Koli fishermen residing in close proximity usually use this beach to proceed with their occupation. Because of fewer count of tourists on Versova beach, you will find very less stall in this region.
How To Reach
By Air

By Train/Rail
Visitors planning for a tour to Versova beach village can also board suburban coach either from VT or from Church Gate covering the route of Harbour Line to Santa Cruz railway station and “Vile Parle Station”.
