Calangute Beach
Calangute beach is a symbol of Goa’s reputation, as being a heaven of coastal splendor and beaches. This beach is also popular as ‘Queen of Beaches’ because of its striking beauty, which you cannot find elsewhere in whole Goa. It seems like a distortion for a local native word ‘Koli-gutti’. It means fishermen’s land.
Some people used to connect this word with Kalyangutti, which means ‘village of art’ or Konvallo-ghott, which means ‘coconut tree’s strong pit’ because you can find coconut trees everywhere in this village. With advent of Portuguese, this word may have got its current form. With mind-blowing nightlife, generous contributions from history and active flea markets, 7 kms long and pristine sandy stretch of this beach is Goa’s biggest draw.
Once you land on this beach, you can spend your vacation by soaking in serenity of sand, sea and sun.
Calangute beach often remain crowded with its visitors performing various kinds of activities, such as children making castles from sand, colorful crowd surging toward sea, where old and young alike love to laze on golden sands. This canvas of one perfect tourist haven gets complete by stalls and shacks under shades of several palm trees offering everything from beer and fried prawns to trinkets, which they built from seashells.
Location
Flanked on southern end by Candolim village and on northern end by Baga’s hamlet, Calangute beach lies at 12 kms distance from Mapusa, 50 kilometers from Airport at Dabolim and 13 kms distance from Panaji.

Nightlife

Restaurants
Calangute’s restaurants and bars are in some groups, which you will come across entrance to this beach and along Baga road. Like most resorts in Goa, there is a firm accent on seafood, whereas several places tack over some token vegetarian cuisines. One of prominent feature here are Western breakfasts.
Unfortunately, only a few other places, which consistently remain open through night, are two dull and hippy hang-outs lying in woods to south of beach road. Pete’s Bar, one perennial favorite lying next door towards Angela P. Fernandes, is usually most lively, offers affordable drinks, relentless reggae and backgammon sets. Further afield is Bob’s Inn, between Candolim and Calangute is one more popular bar, which is famed less because of its court surrounding one large table inside front bar.
