At the local dam area, the main catchments place cleared is around 979.02 meter (or total 378.00 square miles). The rain-fed main catchments are about 712 meter (or total 275 square miles) and the stability place is snowfall fed above snowfall range shape of around 4,570 m. or total 14,990 feet The main level of the catchments place differs from only 600 meters ( or total 2,000 feet) to only 7,338 meters ( or total 24,075 feet) (Northern Kabru local Peak) and is greatly delimited between ( about 27.275°North and 88.0141°East) and (around 27.6195°North and 88.42°East}. A variety of definite sources develop in glacial areas of the river basin; essential snow-fed waterways which represent the local Rangit container above the main dam area are the local Rathong Chu, area of Rimbi Chu, area of Prek Chu, area of Ralli Chu, town Rongdon Chu area and town Kayam Chu area. The amazing water flow as well as high drainage design is sub-dendentric. The local dam is situated only at a range of around 130 kilometers (or total 81 miles) from city of Siliguri and around 70 kilometers (or total 43 miles) from the area of Gangtok city. The local dam is also situated main downstream of the confluence of renowned Rathong Chu as well as Rangit Rivers just near the local Legship city and the leader of the venture is situated just near popular Sagbari city.
Hydrology
The main yearly influx in the local stream at the renowned place of the local dam is approximated as around 696,000 cubic per meters. In addition, the highest possible overflow release can be applied as around 3,395 cubic per meters (or total 119,900 cu). While the style overflow release applied for the spillway of local dam is around 2,725 cubic meters (or total 96,200 cu feet per second). The reliable release applied for disruption from the tank for energy creation is around 1717.8 cubic per meters ( or 630 cu feet/s) ( just without considering main participation from the local upstream Level second venture, which is still to be implemented).
Climate
The important environment of renowned Rangit Stream container is very chilly as well as moist. The environment periods of the container showed in the project area including: spring season-late month of Feb, main summer season- in the month of March, the awaiting pre-monsoon showers- in the month of April to May; main monsoon period in the month of May to month of Sept, even sometimes increasing to month of Oct. The great snow period, at higher heights of the local catchment’s drops comes between the month of Dec and month of Feb. The main winter periods are great chilly with water as well as fog lasting from the month of Nov to month of Feb.
Geology
Precambrian main structures of local Daling sequence of quartzites as well as phyllites control the place. This stone kind is overlain by crystalline area of Darjeeling Gneiss including gneisses and granitites. Latest hard alluvium of exotic loam, some silty loam as well as clayey content of different width overlay the stone structures. The important banks of renowned Rangit Stream illustrate great silty and clay-based content with components prevents. Many landslides can be seen in the main catchments, which add to the siltation issues of the tank.
Project Features
The renowned dam Rangit is around 45 meters (or total 148 feet) high tangible severity framework of around 100 meters (or total 330 feet) duration. The servitor or tank designed behind the local dam has a storage space potential of around 1,175,000 cubic per meters. The main storage space designed is utilized for wave power creation at a surface Leader located on the main left bank of renowned Rangit Stream. The disruption of circulation from the local tank to the outer lining area Leader is impacted through an important Consumption resulting in a tangible covered Go Competition Canal (or also called HRT) of around 4.5 meters ( or 15 feet) size (amazing Horse shoes especially formed as well as tangible lined) of around 3 kilometers ( or total 1.9 miles) duration. an Increase Base around 14 meters ( or total 46 feet) size and of about 60 meters ( or total 200 feet) level at the end of main HRT with great control agreement followed by one primary penstock tube of around 3.5 meters ( or total 11 feet) size. In addition, duration of around 270 meters (or total 890 feet)) trifurcating into main three collections of around 2 meters (or about 6.6 feet) size each. with a duration of around all main three collections is about 59 meters ( or total 194 feet)) to get highly connected to the three Francis Generator Producing Models of around 20 MW potential each via main MIVs.The main tail waters from the generators are led back into the stream through a mixed short tailrace route. The firm energy creation is of the order of around 39 MW corresponding to yearly energy creation of around 340 GWh (or in total 90% every reliable year). The important judgment levels for energy creation are in the tank, Full Reservoir Stage (or also called FRL) of around 639 meters (or total 2,096 feet). and Minimum Sketch Down Stage ( or also called MDDL) of around 627 meters ( or total 2,057 feet)), the Normal End Normal water Stage ( or also called NTWL) in the main End Competition Channel from the Leader of around 512 m as well as under an managing total head of around 127 m.
It is financed by the primary govt, the energy produced is distributed and state Sikkim government gets a share of total 13.33%. The important venture was greatly financed by Indian central government and designed by its main parastatal company namely, the Nationwide Wave Power Organization (or also called NHPC). The main growth of the venture was greatly finished in the month of Dec 1999 season and function started in the month of Jan 2000 season. Operation and servicing of the venture is with a renowned NHPC. This energy venture was the third degree of the main five-stage stream growth designed on the primary control of the renowned Rangit Stream, and was only first to be greatly designed in the sequence of local Rangit Stage one to fourth originally designed by the a Central Normal water Percentage. Three main other tasks on renowned Rangit Stream organized and under growth are local Rangit Stage second ( or around 60 MW total capacity), the main Rangit Stage fourth ( or 3×40 MW = around 120 MW total capacity) and local Jorethong or HEP ( around 96 MW total capacity); the last main two tasks are also now under growth.
Environmental Aspects
In local stream area reservoir or tank tasks, the severity of the siltation issue caused due to main catchment’s deterioration is serious and greatly needs to be appropriately resolved. For this main objective, the head-Secretary of state’s for Atmosphere and Jungles, Indian government have made it very essential for the venture government bodies to apply actual technological innovation and scientific actions in the catchments place of the venture to be highly taken up local pari passu ( or concurrently) along with the execution of the main Wave power venture.
This main action includes several performs described under the local Catchment’s Area Treatment (or called CAT) strategy. For changing the local CAT strategy, the position of the tank catchment was evaluated. The local tank catchment includes only five kinds of dense forests namely, the main Eastern Himalayan or Sub-Tropical wet mountain forests (an elevation variety of around 800 to 1,800 m. (or total 2,600 to 5,900 feet). The Eastern main Himalayan wet moderate forests ( an elevation variety of around 1,800 to 2,700 m ( or total 5,900 to 8,900 feet)), local Oak as well local Rhododendron forests (an average elevated mainly above about 2,700 m ( or total 8,900 feet). It is combined coniferous forests (in main level variety of around 2,700 to 3,750 m (or total 8,900 to 12,300 feet). and downhill scrubs cum pastures (mainly above about 3,750 meters (or total 12,300 feet)). There are around 35 source forests at the catchment, out of which total 29 are in main Western Sikkim region and about six are in main Southern area of Sikkim region. The main catchment place was evaluated in details to evaluate the changed places to be handled under the renowned CAT strategy to decrease siltation issues. A place of around 13,075 hectares land (or total 32,310 acres of land)) was determined for applying technological innovation and scientific therapy actions. These important actions were also applied, beginning with the years of 1995-96, by main Woodlands Division of the state Govt of state Sikkim that including technological innovation therapy actions ( or included main farming area, or main forest area as well as normal local water land) and scientific therapy actions. Around 15 plant centers were recognized protecting a place of around 18.5 hectares land (or around 46 acres of land)) to offer saplings or seedlings especially for main Farmville farm in the main sub-watersheds of the local catchment determined for great therapy.
Recreation
The reservoir formed by dam Rangit was developed into an important recreational water area, which is known as Rangit Water-world. The park is best for boating, fishing, picnics and rafting.
The renowned reservoir or tank formed on renowned Rangit dam was designed into a leisurely local water park known especially as popular Rangit local Water World.
