Varanasi Temples


Varanasi is the ancient Indian City of Temples and the most important pilgrimage center of Hindus. Varanasi is also known as ‘Kashi’ or Benaras. Older than 3000 years, it is one of the oldest learning centers of the word. Varanasi does not have great architectural structures but it has the greatest number of temples in the world. Varanasi is said to have been the source of the sacred – Ganges. Varanasi is of great significance amongst Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. It is believed among the Hindus that a bath in the sacred Ganga purifies the soul.
Ayurveda is said to have originated at Varanasi and is believed to be the root of modern medical sciences such as Plastic surgery, Cataract and Calculus operations. Varanasi is also famous for its trade and commerce, especially for its finest silks and gold and silver brocades, since the early days. The cultural capital of India, Varanasi is a heart of spiritualism, mysticism, Sanskrit and Yoga. This pious city has given birth to several virtuosos in the field of dance and music like Ustad Bismillah khan – the famous shenai maestro, the great internationally acclaimed musician- Pundit Ravi Shankar, and renowned authors such as the ever-famous novelists Prem Chand and Tulsi Das..
