Gorumara National Park


Gorumara National Park, the territory of the Archaic Great Indian 1 Horned Rhinoceros is situated in the deluge plains of Rivers Murti & Jaldhaka of region of Dooars (undulating mount incline) inside district Jalpaiguri of West Bengal. The arid deciduous jungle terrain mix together with grasslands, docks one of biggest variety of jumbo fauna in West Bengal. Since 1895 it was a Reserve Forest and in 1949 was affirmed as a Wildlife National Park consisting of a small region of two thousand one hundred and twenty nine acres. .  In 1994 it was affirmed as a National Park because of its huge variety of plants & animals with a whole region of 79.99 km2. Six Km more addition area is under deliberation.

History
No history of person tenancy exists here. Bungalow of Park Forest dates to old British Raj period, & has a quite preserved register book from its beginning, which creates for attractive reading. Nevertheless Gorumara is surrounded by several ethnic villages. Over ten thousand inhabitant forest villagers get their earnings from resources with employment in forest section actions, ecotourism, etc. Few   villages are Sarswati, Budhuram, Bichabhanga, Chatua, Kailipur & Murti Forest Village, orumara is situated in the Eastern Himalayas' submontaneTerai strap. This area has undulating forests & riverine grasslands, & is famous as the Dooars in West Bengal. Gorumara National Park is situated on the flood plains of the River Murti & River Raidak. The main river of the Gorumara National Park is the river Jaldhaka, a branch of the river Brahmaputra scheme. In this view, Gorumara is a important watershed region within the River Ganges & Brahmaputra  systems. Gorumara National Park is very near to the Jaldapara Wildlife Reserve & Chapramari Wildlife Reserve
Flora
This tree is inhabitant to the Indian Subcontinent, varying south Himalaya, from countries of Myanmar in the east to Nepal, India & Bangladesh. Inside Nepal, it is institute typically in the terai area starting east to west, particularly, in the Churia array (the Shivalik Hill Churia Range) in the subtropical weather region. Several protected areas are there including ChitwanNational Park, Bardiya National Park Bardia National Park, ShuklaPhat National Parks and so on with thick forests of giant sal trees. In addition it is observed in the lower girdle of the mountainous region & central terai. In the country of India, it spreads from Assam, Bengal, Orissa & West Jharkhand to the Hills of Shivalik in Haryana, east of the Yamuna. The array also expands in the course of the Eastern Ghats & to the eastern Vindhya & Satpura series of middle India. This is frequently the foremost tree in the jungles where it crops up.
Sal is fair to slow rising, & may reach heights of thirty to thirty five meters & a stem diameter of around two to two point five meters. It has leaves which are ten to twenty five cm long & five to fifteen cm broad. In damp regions, it is evergreen; in arid regions, it is arid – climate deciduous, peeling the majority of the leaves in February month to April month, leafing away once more in April & May month
Fauna
The park consists recorded 50 classes of mammals, 193 classes of birds, twenty two classes of reptiles, seven classes of turtles, twenty seven classes of fishes & various macro & micro fauna.
Mammals: There are abundant large herbivores like Indian Rhinoceros, Gaur, Asian Elephant, Sloth bear, Chital, & Sambar Deer here. Small herbivores comprise Barking deer, Hog deer & Wild boar. Comparatively there is lack of huge carnivores and the mere huge cat is the Leopard. Any occupant inhabitants of v, v or v is not found here. However Tigers are infrequently found in the park. The park consists of several tiny carnivores which are several civets, mongooses & tiny cats. Huge resident inhabitant of Wild bear is there in the park but the seriously scarce Pygmy Hog has been detailed from this park. It also consists of several rodents, counting Giant Squirrels. The uncommon Hispid Hare has too been reported inside the park.
Birds: It  is well known for its bird inhabitants - which contains sparkling submontane jungle birds such as the Scarlet Minivet, Sunbird, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Spangled Drongo & Great Indian Hornbill. Various woodpeckers & pheasants live in the park. Very much common are Peafowls. It is on the flyway of various traveling birds counting the unusual Brahminy Duck.
Reptiles And Amphibians: Park is dwelling to a great amount of snakes, poisonous & non- poisonous, as well as the Indian Python, among the biggest snakes in the globe, & the King Cobra - the world's biggest poisonous snake.

Month of November to March is the ideal period to come to Gorumara.

How To Get There
Air: Closest Airport is Bagdogra Airport (distance from Siliguri to Bagdogra is thirteen km.)
Rail: Madarihat is the closest Railway Station and only seven km distant of the Sanctuary. The park is reachable through the rail stations at Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Koch Bihar. One may take a jeep / car from here all the way through National Highway thirty one to Lataguri, the entry to the park.
Road: National highway thirty one which links Siliguri & Guwahati go by Lataguri (around seventy five km distant of Siliguri), Chalsa & Nagrakata are close to the park. Buses from North Bengal State Transport Corporation and buses from Bhutan Govt. also Mini Buses &Private Buses are accessible through Siliguri to Alipurduar through Madarihat. The way are (a) Darjeeling-Siliguri-Jalpaiguri (through New Teesta Bridge) – Mainaguri-Dhupguri-Gairkata-Birpara-Madarihat (one hundred and forty miles or twotwenty four kms.)
