History
Kudremukh region was declared as a reserved forest in 1916, by the British government. This step was taken to stop the extensive cut and burn agricultural practices from entering into the Ghats. a renowned tiger expert and environmentalist Dr ullas karanth did a systematic survey in 1983to 1984 ,and observed that kudremukh is an extensive and suitable habitat for lion –tailed macaque most probably the tract has largest population of lion-tailed macaques in the western Ghats exterior to Malabar region . he also suggested that this could be successfully used as a ‘flagship’ to save the whole biotic community he also organized a protection plan for the survival of lion tailed macaques in the Malabar region. On the basis of his report it was the suggestion of the Karnataka state wildlife advisory board to the government that there should be the creation of kudremukh national park after that the government issued its first notification regarding kudremukh national park in 1987,
