Kishtwar National Park
Kishtawar is one of the renowned national parks in India situated at higher altitude in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in the year 1981, with the main purpose of protecting snow leopards. it is situated about 248 km from Jammu , total area covered by the park is about 400 sq km surrounded by snow covered mountains , numerous streams flowing through the park adds magnetism and charm to this wildlife reserve .
The high altitude national park is the natural habitat of 15 mammal species including Himalayan brown and black bear and the musk deer. The park is having 50 species of birds. The main features of the park are discrepancy in topography and vegetation which are found here in abundance. This is all because of the variations in climate, altitude and off coursetopography which contribute in the occurrence of numerous kinds of forest vegetation. The species of main trees are cedrus, pinus, gerardiana, quercus, deodar, juglans, regia, wallichiana, and ulmus etc. the main herbs are primula spp.,Brachypodium spp., dipsacus, mitis, Artemisia, vulgaries, and anemone spp., etc. the main shrubs are Desmodim tiliaefolium, viburnam spp., Rosa spp., jacquemontiana etc .

History
This park was declared to be the national park on 4thFebruary 1981. No doubt this is an important Himalayan area in the state due to its great size and miscellaneous kind of mammals together with endangered and rare species. This forest was cultivated to stop their great loss from 1948, since then classification has been systematically managed and ultimately stopped by the establishment of this national park
This area has been the attraction of tourists although at present there are almost no facilities. The rest houses of the forest exist at sirshi and ekhala.
Flora

Fauna
There are more than fifteen mammal species, the main are musk deer, hangul, goral, markhor, langur, leopard and Himalayan brown bear etc.

The most suitable time to visit this park is between the month of September to March and birds watching between March to may.

Road: Road facility is also provided up to ikhala but the services are given up to plamer which is 20 km far in the north of kishtawar.

There are more than fifteen mammal species, such as musk deer, hangul, goral, markhor, langur, leopard and Himalayan brown bear etc. Almost fifty species of birds exist here, out of them the main are beared vulture, paradise flycatcher, jungle crow, golden oriole, white cheeked bulbul, Indian mynah, and griffon vulture etc.

Annual rainfall at sisrshi and palmer which is at the altitude of 1,761m is 741 to 827mm respectively, both are situated near the border of the national park .maximum precipitation that is 100mm per month occurs in the month of march and April, then after in July and august . Most of the snow fall occurs in the month of December and January. The temperature recorded at sirshi is -7oto 13oC in the month of January and 11oto 35oC in the month of July.
