Diu Beach
Diu is a small island which lies across Ahmedpur Mandvi 125kms away from Junagarh. The tranquil atmosphere in the beach assures the presence of tourists all through the year. You could feel the oneness with the elements of the earth as you lie on the shining sand in the presence of the ocean waters watching the sky with the sun and moon as witnesses in gentle breeze. The eminence of the Portuguese in the island is still witnessed in the Portuguese churches, one of which is transformed to an attractive museum. The never ending soft breeze is also due to the presence of palm groves and coconut trees throughout the island of Diu.
Location
India’s one of the paramount beaches, Diu is located in the Saurashtra coast of Gujarat125km away from Junagarh. Its immaculate beaches and serene atmosphere makes it is the topnotch among the tourist resorts. Being the Portuguese colony during 14th and 16th century, it served as the major port for maritime trade.
How To Reach
Airlines
Daman airport has aircraft connections with Baroda and Mumbai. So you can fly here from Mumbai within an hour. Daman and Diu are well connected with other cities too.
Rail Lines
Veraval, is the nearest railhead, which is 80 km from the downtown. It connects Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Rajkot. The two important trains are Girnar Express and Somnath Mail.
Bus Lines
Diu has a well maintained system of roadways. Therefore all the major cities of Maharashtra and Gujarat are connected with Daman and Diu.
Private / Hired Vehicles
Taxis and auto rickshaws are the easy means of transport.
Temperature And Weather
Having elevated at a height of 29 meters, the beach experiences a pleasant climate. The temperature is between 20 and 38 degrees C in summer and 20 and 25 degrees C inwinter.And the region records an average rainfall of70cms annually. The period from October to May is the best time to relish in the beaches of Diu.
Attractions
Diu Fort
A mesmerizing effect is produced as you watch the sea from the Diu Fort which was built between 1535 and 1541 AD by Bahadur shah, The Sultan of Gujaratsubsequent to a defense alliance with the Portuguese. The large windows with stone galleries and several cannons peeping out of its walls are major attractions of the fort. The fort is surrounded by the sea on three sides.
Light House
A huge structure which is a part of the Diu fort currently serves as the lighthouse of the beach.
Gangeshwar Temple
House of five Shiva lingams, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva, which are worshiped by the pilgrims.
Nagao Beach
It is a horseshoe shaped beach near Diu which mustbe surely visited.
Daman
A beautiful port town located on the coast of Gujarat, attracts tourists for its beach and some historical monuments of Portuguese period.
Kevdi
Located at a distance of 6km from Diu on the MelalaNagoa Road, it offers comfortable tented accommodation facilities for tourists with scenic surroundings.
