Lakkavalli Dam
On the bank sites of river Bhadra, Lakkavalli dam is located which is famous for the purpose of providing water for irrigation and for generation of power and many more. From the British time, the biodiversity is well known among the other biodiversities. Even the description of this biodiversity is also given in the book of Kenneth Anderson, who was considered to be the famous hunter on its time. He mentioned this place as one of the place where he killed a man eater in his book. A little distance from the Lakkavalli dam, say 7 km away, there is auniversity located there famous by the name of Kuvempu University. There is a highway which covers the village area is the highway named by T-M road which stands for (Tarikere-Mangalore).
The famous chief Engineer designated by the name Sir M.Vishweshwaraiah was the one who designed the structure of Lakkavalli dam. It is assumed that the Lakkavalli dam is of 194 ft in height. With the help of two turbines this dam helps in the power generation and even for the irrigation purpose.
Lakkavalli dam is engulfed with water mostly during all the months of the year.Like the other reservoir, the reservoir of this dam is very scenic which contain a very high range of hills and the small islands in the forested area. A famous wildlife sanctuary which is known by the name of Bhadra is located in the Lakkavalli from its backwater side.Near about 492 km of land is covered under the Bhadra, Sanctuary of Wildlife.
Reservoir
Lakkavalli dam has a reservoir which is more beautiful and covered under the Western Ghats. This dam is known for the purpose of generating power with the help of two turbines and even to supply water for the irrigation purpose. In the village of Davanagere, a small district of Chitradurga, the water from this dam is used for the purpose of drinking too.
Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary
Bhadra (Sanctuary of Wildlife) also increases the beauty of the reservoir. It is the sanctuary which covers a most of the area says 492 km sq as its land area. It is the sanctuary consists of Tiger, Spotted dear, Leopard and many more. A government has started a project for the conservation of tiger species in the sanctuary.
Tourism
A famous temple which is known by the name of Someshwara dedicated tolord Shiva is located 5 km away from the Lakkavalli dam on the bank site of river Bhadra. During the month of December and January, a fair is arranged to attract the no. of tourists. A park is also located next to Someshwara temple known by Dattatreya Park.
Legend Of Marikamba
There is a story after the legend given to the Marikamba is that in the years ago, girl should marry within the age of 18 years but the girl named by Marikamba Brahmin girl was left out without marriage at the age of 18 years so for that she has to left for the forest. But in the forest she met with a man who called himself a Brahmin married with him and had two children from her marriage life. But through her son Marikamba came to known about the caste and the birth of her husband. Marikamba can’t tolerate the bitter truth and want to kill her husband and children because of being cheated so far. A program is held on the fair day based on the ‘’Drishti bottu’’.
